THE search for a grandmother whose boyfriend has been charged with her murder will switch to a river and its banks, police said today.

Pamela Jackson, 55, was reported missing from her home in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, a week ago.

The mother-of-three grown up sons had not been seen since March 2 and her partner Adrian Muir, 50, from Calder Terrace, Halifax, West Yorkshire, has appeared in court charged with her murder.

A major operation to find her has been mounted, with police and search specialists scouring Chester-le-Street town centre, railway embankments and woodland.

Durham Police said officers from Northumbria Police's Marine Unit will take to the River Wear tomorrow to join the search, concentrating on the stretch of water from Durham County Cricket Club to Fatfield in Washington.

Chief Inspector Elaine Taylor said: "It is now one week since Pamela was reported missing and in that time there has been a tremendous amount of work carried out to try and determine what has happened to her.

"We are continuing to explore every possibility and following up all the actions we would normally do to locate a high-risk missing person.

"The specialists from the marine unit and the search and rescue volunteers will provide expert and additional support for our own teams."

Anyone who has any information which could help the police is asked to contact the force on 101 and ask for the incident room.
