THE man whose mission is to help every Beamish Museum visitor have a good experience is in line for a tourism Oscar.

Anthony Gales, head of operations at the popular award-winning attraction near Stanley, County Durham, is shortlisted for the title of England's Tourism Superstar 2013.

The award, first staged last year by Visit England, recognises the dedication of people on the front line of the tourism industry who go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure visitors have a wonderful time.

Mr Gales sets up events, runs the popular winter ice rink and looks after visitors with passion and dedication.

He said: "I do whatever I can to make sure every visitor has a great day out at Beamish.

“As Head of Operations I am responsible for the smooth running of the site, all 300-acres, and from the moment that people arrive to when they head home at the end of the day my team takes care of them.”

He was nominated by Visit County Durham, the destination management organisation for Durham.

Chief Executive Melanie Sensicle said: 'We are delighted that Anthony has made the Tourism Superstar shortlist.

“We know that he is excellent at looking after people and he really deserves this accolade. We urge everyone to vote for him when the contest begins in February.”
