AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a kayaker who died after becoming trapped in debris in a swollen river.
Matthew Baird-Parker, 36, was pulled from Arkle Beck, at Reeth, at 1pm on Sunday by firefighters, but died later in the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
MISSING PENSIONER: A tracker dog has joined the search for a grandmother suffering from dementia who has been missing on the North York Moors since Monday. Search and rescue teams have been joined by police officers and an air support unit in the search for Barbara Colling, 68, of Helmsley.
FLOOD CONCERN: Pumps are being operated around the clock in the Malton, Norton, Old Malton and Brawby area of North Yorkshire in an attempt to prevent melting snow and rainfall inundating properties.
