PARK’S BEGINNINGS: Historical files documenting the creation of the Yorkshire Dales National Park will soon be available to the public. The files, which include the paper designating the area as a National Park in 1953, have been handed over to the North Yorkshire County Record Office in Northallerton for archiving after being kept in storage at the authority’s offices in Bainbridge. Authority chief executive David Butterworth said: “These archives form part of the history of the park and are a priceless record of how an area of the countryside was identified as being special.”
