A CHARITY is organising an evening of entertainment to raise money for a cause close to its heart.

Consett YMCA’s Act On Theatre Group is co-ordinating a variety show at the town’s Empire Theatre in aid of blood cancer charity Bright Red.

The YMCA’s Lee Robson is undergoing treatment for leukaemia for the second time, so talented young people from the Parliament Street centre hope to raise as much as they can to fight the disease.

Jenn Rogan, producer and director of The Bright Red Carpet Event on March 22, said: “This will be a celebration of the arts in Consett and the positive impact they are having on people’s lives. The aim is to bring together the community and will showcase the local talent we have up here.

“It will be a night to remember.”

Half of the money raised from the show, which is dedicated to the memory of YMCA volunteer Colin Greener, who died last year, will also go towards the Act On Theatre Group’s Hungarian Exchange.

It will feature performances from the group, Consett Citizen’s Choir, Jane Robson School of Dance, local amateur dramatics groups, local musicians and comedians as well as pupils from The Grove Primary School and Consett Academy.

Tickets for the show cost £5, and £3 for concessions, and can be booked by calling 01207-218171.

The YMCA is looking for sponsors and donors to support the show by making a financial contribution or supplying prizes for a raffle.
