POLICE are appealing for information after burglars broke into a junior school in east Durham and stole IT equipment from one of the classrooms.

The alarm at Shotton Hall junior school in Waveney Road, Peterlee, went off around 11.15pm last night (Monday, January 28).

When the on-call manager and police arrived they discovered the intruders had forced their way in through the rear of the building and made off with two Dell computer towers, worth an estimated £1,000.

A police spokesman said, a similar burglary happened before Christmas at nearby Shotton Hall Academy.

In that break-in, on December 9, several iPads were stolen after entry was gained through the rear of the property.

This crime remains undetected and police are looking at possible links between the two incidents.

Detectives are asking anyone in the Peterlee area who might have been offered an iPad at a suspiciously low price in the last few weeks to contact them.

They are also asking anyone who was in the area of Shotton Hall junior school last night and saw or heard anything unusual.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 number, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800- 555-111.
