POLICE are on the hunt for a man who thrust a knife at a passing car in a County Durham town.

The car’s driver, a 53-year-old man, was making a delivery in Bishop Auckland when he drove past a man aged between 40 and 45 and a woman in her twenties, at about 8pm on Saturday (January 26).

As he passed them on a back lane between Oak Lea Terrace and James Terrace, the man suddenly flung out his arm in the direction of the car and the driver saw the he was carrying a knife.

The motorist carried on but was concerned by the incident and rang police to report what had happened. Officers carried out a search of the area but there was no trace of either the man or woman.

The man was about 5ft 8ins tall, of slim to medium build and wearing a black bomber jacket, blue jeans and a black cap.

The woman is described as being 20 to 25 years-old and slim, she was wearing a three-quarter length black coat with black fur around the collar.
