A CATTERY is holding an open day to build support for the stray animals it takes in and give people the chance to take home a pet.

Tendercare Cattery, in Burnhope, is caring for 42 moggies in need of new homes, so owner Tracey Hobbs is throwing open her doors to the community.

The 50-year-old started the rescue shelter as a boarding home around 13 years ago, but finds herself increasingly taking in strays and cats with nowhere else to go.

She is looking for help from donors to supply her with cat food, biscuits, litter, blankets, toys and beds.

Ms Hobbs said: “I would be grateful for any help people can offer. It was supposed to be for boarders, but I find myself taking all comers. There are just so many that I need to find good homes for them all.”

The open day, on Sunday, February 10, from 10am-3pm, will also give people the chance to adopt a cat, with prices starting at £100 for two kittens or £60 for older cats.

All have been speyed or neutered, wormed and checked by a vet.

Ms Hobbs added: “They make great companions.”
