A COUPLE who were unable to renew their wedding vows due to last month’s flooding were able to do so yesterday, (Saturday, January 27) despite the snow.

Bad weather in December meant Kris and Sharon Evans were unable to have their service when they initially planned.

But their ceremony was held at St Bartholomew’s Church in Sunderland Bridge, followed by a reception at Honest Lawyer Hotel in Croxdale, on Saturday Mr Evans, 46, who works as prison officer, said: “We were hearing about roads being closed and thought ‘oh well’.

“We were a bit concerned it might not go ahead, but it has and it has been a real success.”

Mr Evans, and his 49-year-old wife, who works as a child minder, have been married five years and live in Doncaster, but wanted to hold the ceremony in the North-East because of the warm welcome they received on a previous anniversary break.

He added: “We fell in love with the place and the people up here and come back at least once a month to go into Durham. It is a beautiful place.”
