A MAN could not be sentenced by a court because he failed to make contact with the probation service so they could prepare a report on him.
Daniel Meredith, who admits a charge of perverting the course of justice, claimed he hadn't responded to three letters which were sent to him and asked him to attend appointments - because he did not receive them.
He suggested they had been stolen by the tenants in the flats where he was living, Teesside Crown Court heard.
As a result a report on him, which would assist the court in his sentencing, was not ready.
Meredith, 22, was bailed by Judge Peter Armstrong to live at his girlfriend's address in Ullswater Close, Grangetown, Middlesbrough, and the case adjourned.
The judge said he could be jailed if he did not turn up for the rearranged court case on February 15.
