RAIL services were delayed after a man was found dead on the tracks early today (Thurday, January 17).
Officers from British Transport Police were called to the scene on the East Coast main line at Copmanthorpe near York shortly before 8.30am.
A spokesman said: “Officers attended and discovered the body of a man, believed to be a 32-year-old local man, who had injuries consistent with having been struck by a train.
“At this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are now working to formally identify the man and the exact circumstances of his death.
“Once these enquiries are complete a file will be prepared for the coroner."
The tragedy led to delays for a number of services but trains were running normally again within two hours.
