A SECOND five-a-side football tournament for women is to be held following the success of a town’s first ever competition.

A tournament organised by Hartlepool Council’s Sport and Recreation Service, took place at Grayfields recreation ground on Tuesday December 4 and attracted five teams.

The eventual winners were Norton Ladies who defeated Peterlee Ladies 3-1 in a close-fought final.

Assistant recreation officer Daniel Garthwaite said: “We were delighted with the support shown for the competition and the quality of the football played was excellent.

“Afterwards, the feedback from the teams was very positive. They all said that they would like to see further tournaments held at Grayfields so we have pencilled in another for Tuesday March 19.”

In the recent competition, teams played each other once in a league before the top four teams progressed through to a knock-out phase. The league matches lasted seven and a half minutes while the duration of the knock-out games was increased to ten minutes.
