POLICE have praised a member of the public for reporting a flytipper who dumped dozens of tyres on a county road.

Officers from the Weardale Neighbourhood Policing Team found the piles of car tyres on a track leading to Stanhope Burn near Crawleyside Bank.

The tyres were reported to police by a member of the public.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Stewart Liddle said: “The person reporting this saw the vehicle acting suspiciously and was vigilant enough to take down the vehicle registration number.

“This has been passed to the relevant department and enquiries are on-going.

“Please remain be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to prevent this behaviour.”

PCSO Liddle urged anyone spotting suspicious behavior to report it to officers on 101, visit Stanhope Police Station which is based in the Durham Dales Centre or stop an officer in the street.
