A THIEF who got £10 for a boiler he stole has been ordered to pay £380 compensation to its owner.

Magistrates in Newton Aycliffe were told that the boiler Kieron Lee Wynn stole from a house in Ferryhill was actually worth more than £1,300, but Wynn was only ordered to pay a third back as he claimed two other men were involved in the theft.

The 19-year-old of Rydal Road, in Ferryhill, admitted the theft last week and was back in court today (December 14) for sentencing.

The court heard that the flat was being rented by one of Wynn’s friends, who Wynn later said had been involved in the theft, although there was no evidence linking him to the crime.

The court heard that the boiler was sold for scrap for £36 of which Wynn received £10.

Magistrates also sentenced Wynn to a three-month curfew restricting him to his home between 5pm and 5am.
