THE hunt to find the next Chief Constable of County Durham and Darlington is underway.
The area’s new Police and Crime Commissioner, Ron Hogg, has started th e process to find the force’s new top officer.
He is one of a number of commissioners around the country currently looking to recruit to their most senior post.
Mike Barton is currently the Temporary Deputy Chief Constable following the retirement of Jon Stoddart in October after eight years as chief.
Mr Hogg said: “As the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Durham. I am seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to help me deliver my vision of achieving excellence in local policing and the highest levels of public confidence.
“I aim to do this by working alongside communities and partners to address what matters locally.
“The person appointed will have the professional policing skills and experience necessary to lead Durham Constabulary in maintaining and approving on its high performance”.
The appointment is expected to be made on January 28 but will have to be confirmed by the county’s Police and Crime Panel.
