AN AIR cadet has returned from a four-week trip to Nepal which included a visit to Mount Everest's base camp.
Flight Sergeant Matthew Leathard, of 234 (City of Durham) Squadron, was selected for the expedition following his performance on a national junior leaders’ course.
Having been challenged to organise a fundraising event, the 18-year-old put cadets through their paces on an obstacle course, raising £1,100 for the John Thornton Young Achievers’ Foundation.
In Nepal, Mr Leathard spent 14 days trekking before visiting Pokara, Butwal and Lumbini.
He said: “The experience of going to Nepal was unreal – something I’ve never had the chance to do before and may not have the chance to do again.
“I think it’s given me some really valuable life experience and great friends.”
