The woman, from Redmire Drive, Consett, believes the dog was with two men in a field close to her house on December 4.
Following the two-year-old cat's death, she has said that people do go "lamping" to catch rabbits in the field and on the night the cat was killed she had seen a lamping light.
Police said no reports had previously been receive about lamping in the area but are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
The non-emergency number is 101 or Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800-555-111.
