A TEACHER who moved to Colombia seven years ago is inviting people to celebrate the end of the world at an art exhibition about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Sarah Genner has returned to her native North East after seven years teaching English in Bogota to hold the Revelations exhibition.

Ms Genner, 32, from Willington, will hold the free exhibition in Durham for one day only on Friday, December 21, the day the Mayans thought the world would end.

It features work from four artists, including her own, and is inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

She said: “It is a grim idea but really it’s a lot of fun, if the world is going to end why not go out with a nice big party.”

Ms Genner initially went on a three month trip to Colombia in 2005 but ended up staying out there.

She said: “I just loved it so much and things started to fall into place for me.”

This Christmas will be her first in Willington for nine years and she said she was very excited to be back home.

The exhibition features work from graphic artists, classically-trained artists and Ms Genner’s photography.

The exhibition is free to enter and will run for 7pm to 1am at the Empty Shop, on Framwellgate Bridge, in Durham.
