OPERA star Sir Thomas Allen will fall under the spotlight at Durham Cathedral’s Christmas Concert next weekend.

Fresh from directing a production at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Sir Thomas will be joining the Durham Cathedral Choir for a candlelit concert featuring an array of carols and seasonal music.

Sir Thomas said: “To be at home in Durham and do this concert is very pleasant. Durham Cathedral has a very special place in my spirit and in my heart. It is just lovely for me to be coming back now.”

The concert will include an appearance by Prince Bishops Brass.

James Lancelot, Master of the Choristers and organist, at Durham Cathedral said: “We are delighted that Sir Thomas accepted our invitation to take part in Christmas with Durham Cathedral Choir. “His professional career has taken him round the world and it is a privilege for the Choir to sing with him in his ‘home’ cathedral.

“No doubt he has been an inspiration to many and I am sure those listening, as well as the musicians taking part, will appreciate his contribution to what promises to be a very special evening.”

The event at 7.30pm on Saturday December 15 is in support of music at Durham Cathedral Tickets: £25, £20 & £10 (£20, £15, £8 concessions) available from the Gala Theatre Box Office on 0191 332 4041 or www.galadurham.co.uk.
