What was your first car?

My first car was a red Nissan Micra and a loved it! I’d saved up for years and spent all of my funding on it, I was so excited. I called her Nina – because I was in sixth form and everybody in sixth form names their cars, right? – and it made me feel so grown up.

How many times did it take to pass your test?

I had a driving instructor local to me and I learnt in a Vauxhall Corsa. Before I had proper lessons my dad tried to teach me in our family people carrier – not the best idea! I passed first time with three minors, but it took me two times to pass my theory.

Who would be your fantasy passenger and where would you go?

The Northern Echo: Radio 1's Greg James

My ideal passenger would be Radio 1 DJ Greg James, pictured above, and we would drive from Manchester to Cardiff. I always seem to be listening to him when I do that journey so it seems appropriate!

How would you describe your driving style?

I think my driving is pretty good. It’s difficult to turn off the racing mentality when I’m driving home straight after a race sometimes though!

Tell me one anecdote from your driving past?

It’s a long story, but I managed to get my front wheels stuck on a really high curb outside my school and the whole rugby team had to come out and lift my car. I was mortified!

What are you listening to?

The Northern Echo: The return of Fleetwood Mac

When I’m driving alone I mostly listen to the radio for a sense of company. Otherwise, something to sing along to on a long drive – Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album is always a good idea.

What are you driving now?

The Northern Echo:

Right now I drive a Fiat 500X, above, and it’s perfect for fitting in all my bikes and bags when I’m off racing or training. I love using all the fancy features I’ve never had before – the parking sensors have come in very handy.

What is your dream car?

My dream car would be an old school Fiat 500. I’ve always loved them and my first car was the closest I could get on my budget. Driving around the coast of Italy in one of those would be a dream.
