I’ve had an interesting week from the penalty spot!

I’ve had two spot kicks this week, one against Radcliffe last Saturday, and one against Kendal on Tuesday.

We got an early penalty against Radcliffe, but I took it badly which summed up my own start to the game. Their keeper guessed correctly, and he pushed it around the post for a corner. That was the first one I’ve missed since I started taking them earlier in the season.

But then I scored from the corner! It was a great cross by Steve Capper for me to head in, so happily my miss didn’t cost us too much.

I got some good-natured stick from the lads and the boss afterwards in the changing room about missing one, but straight away I said that I would take the next one.

I didn’t think the next one would come along so quickly on Tuesday. We had a strong appeal for a handball turned down, but a few minutes later Mikey Roberts was brought down, and this time the referee pointed to the spot.

I grabbed the ball, and a few of the lads came over and wished me luck. I must admit I was a little nervous as I put the ball on the spot, but I managed to send the keeper the wrong way.

There was no real cunning, I just hit it with pace and the keeper dived the wrong way. It wasn’t one of those clever penalties when the penalty-taker gives the keeper the eyes and puts the ball into the other corner!

We’ve had two massive wins this week, and we’re looking to get another against Mossley on Saturday. The play offs are the aim, we’re not looking for top spot because we think that it’s Darlington’s league. They’re too strong not to win the league, so hopefully we can make sure that we get into the play offs.

But we know that Mossley won’t be easy to beat. We have to make sure that we’re on our mettle, and the management team will make sure that we are.
