WHAT a wonderful experience was my first and hopefully soon-to-be-repeated visit to Saltburn’s old Community theatre to see West Coast act Zoe Muth and her four-piece band.
We enjoyed a beautiful sound as local act Shipcote eased through an impressive set for starters.
Muth’s songs, coupled with her old-fashioned roadhouse country band, brought a feel akin to what you’d get if you were to blend the music of Loretta Lynn, Kate Wolf and maybe even the sound of Emmylou Harris before she became famous.
Muth couldn’t have had a better support than the country pedal steel, electric lead guitar, mandolin and a rhythm section of the finest quality. Just what her fine songs demanded.
Among the highlights were If I Can’t Trust You With A Quarter, and the McGarrigles’ Heart Like A Wheel.
Just when we thought we’d heard the best possible, she returned to perform solo with the wonderful, heart-tugging Not To Be Fooled Again.
