AFTER three years, The Pigeon Detectives, the indie rock band from Yorkshire, are set to release their hotly-anticipated new album and single.
They have an infectious desire when translating recorded material for a live audience, and their unquestionable knack for finding a hook that can snare fans of pop and rock sounds is undeniable.
Very quickly into their set, the venue became sweaty, almost with a punk vibe, thanks to excited fans who had no doubt travelled a long way to see the chart-bothering lads in action.
From the moment the band leapt on stage, the audience was in a dancing frenzy and screaming the lyrics back to frontman Matt Bowman.
Highlight tracks, Everybody Wants Me, This Is An Emergency and In Your Trap, were expertly delivered and, even though their set was full of old classics, the band found time to air new tracks, such as Done In Secret and What You Gunna Do.
The new album, Up, Guards And At ’Em has a chat and laddish vibe, with heavy catchy choruses and light on lyrical subtlety. The whole experience of recording the album has been new for the quintet, because their previous offerings have been written on home turf. The album was recorded at Brooklyn Recording Company, with producer Justin Gerrish.
Gerrish has worked in the past with bands such as Vampire Weekend, Glasvegas and Weezer, so from the production, the sound is impeccable. After a three-year break, The Pigeon Detectives are still on top form.
