CD REVIEWS: The Either/Orchestra: Mood Music for Time Travellers (Accurate 3285)

It’s been a while since I heard the wonderfully named Either/Orchestra but this new album, celebrating their 25th anniversary, is as enjoyable and uplifting as ever.

Still led by saxophonist Russ Gershon, with veterans Tom Halter and Charlie Kohlhase alongside newer members, this multi-talented 12-piece band embraces many sounds and rhythms with solos and textures equally significant.

A very joyful album, it’s available on either-orchestra.org.

The Dave Jones Trio

(Journeys (DJT004)

This little gem arrived out of the blue, sent by Welsh pianist Dave Jones who is accompanied by Ashley John Long and Lloyd Haines with guest slots from horn players Lee Goodall, Tomas Williams and Gareth Roberts.

After the opening Black Nile all the songs are by Jones, inspired by a visit to Washington DC.

Nice programming makes a very enjoyable CD. jazzcds.co.uk.

Jacky Terrason/Push (Concord Jazz) The pianist’s first CD for his new label features his current trio with Ben Williams bass and Jamire Williams drums, plus guests including Gregoire Maret and Cyro Baptista.

It’s a dynamic album mostly featuring his own compositions tempered with versions of Round Midnight and Ruby My Dear.
