AS the holiday season heads into full swing and thoughts turn to the sunny trips abroad, give a thought to the holiday entertainment on your own doorstep.

If, like many Brits abroad, you head for the Spanish resort of Benidorm, then your evening strolls may have taken you to what is known locally as the Red Dog Saloon.

It is here where country music has been put on the map under the vocal interpretation of Ron Jones, who entertains with non-stop hits each evening with only guitar and a drum machine.

His fame has spread and, on May 24, he performs a one-off show at Sacriston Workingmen's Club near Durham.

Jones flies in a couple of days before to rehearse for a day with top local band Little Rock.

He performs his show at the club, affectionately known as the Tombstone Country Music Club, and jets off back to Spain the following morning.

Little Rock have carved a niche in the world of country music which is second to none and have become one of the most respected bands in Britain.

Tickets are available by calling Val on 0191-371 9503 and are priced at £3 or £4 on the night. Pop along to hear a case of 'Red Dogs and Englishmen go out with the Tombstone Guns'. All that aside, you're in for a great entertaining evening.
