REVIEWS: Graham Fitkin: Circuit (BISSACD- 1517) An accomplished pianist, Graham Fitkin counts Stravinsky, Webern, Frank Sinatra and the Pet Shop Boys as sources of inspiration. Circuit for two pianos and orchestra was composed for Kathryn Stott and Norika Ogawa. Energetic with powerful rthymns, this is refreshing listening.

The Sound of Sibelius (BIS-SACD-1645) The Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vanska present some of the most beautiful music written by Sibelius. It includes Karelia Suite, The Swan of Tuonela, Valse Triste and Scene with Cranes and, of course, Finlandia. Will appeal to devotees and initiates alike.

William Schuman Symphony No 8 etc (Naxos 8.559651) Naxos’ series of William Schuman’s symphonies concludes with his dynamic and at times playful Eight Symphony, in which the American composer makes full use of a very large orchestra, including two harps, piano and battery of brass. Gerard Schwarz conducts the Seattle Symphony.
