ANY true Johhnny Cash fan would know that tomorrow would have been The Man in Black’s 78th birthday.
With that in mind, American Recordings and Lost Highway Records are releasing the sixth and final instalment of his critically acclaimed American Recordings album series.
All have been produced by Rick Rubin. Many songs were recorded by Cash between the completion of American 1V-The Man Comes Around in 2002 right up to the time of his death in 2003.
Some were released on the album AmericanV-A Hundred Highways and the remaining songs are here, ending the sessions which began in 1994.
Due to his frailty, engineers and guitar players were on constant stand-by for when he was physically strong enough to perform. Just four months previously, Cash had lost his wife June Carter Cash, and each song takes on themes of friendships, the pursuit of salvation and the power of his faith.
Included is Sheryl Crow’s Redemption Day, Kris Kristofferson’s For The Good Times and Tom Paxton’s Can’t Help But Wonder Where I’m Bound. He may not be with us in person, but the legacy of his music always will be there.
