AS the daughter of country singer Hank Williams Jnr and granddaughter of the great Hank Williams, young songbird Holly Williams has a good pedigree and has gained respect as a singer-songwriter.
It was an interesting evening which began with Bolton’s hard-working Andrea Glass, who become stronger as she introduced new songs to go with those on her debut album.
Williams’ set, after a solid opening with only her guitar, was lifted considerably when her husband – guitarist and vocalist Chris Coleman, joined her. Coleman was a natural player with a voice rich in character. Williams’ music flowed, stronger all-round as her material became more fleshed-out to allow her vocals to blossom.
Despite her heritage, she started out at the bottom and is happy playing intimate listening rooms.
Her songs included the heart-tugging true story Without Jesus Here With Me and her tribute to her mother, (Mama) coupled with covers of Bob Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice.
She closed with I Saw The Light, ensuring the gig ended on a high.
