MENTION names like Steely Dan, Vince Gill, Ringo Starr, Dan Fogelberg, Clint Black, Elton John and Crosby Stills and Nash and a link is Timothy B Schmit, who has appeared on all their albums.

He is better known as being the bass player/guitarist for the last 16 years with The Eagles. This is his first solo album for eight years and he explains: “Expando implies growing and expanding and I feel like that’s what the music on this album represents to me. This time I decided to do it all on my own. I come from a folk and early rock background, so that’s how I started every one of these songs – on an acoustic guitar.”

Unless you’re a true Schmit fan you may not already know that this is his fifth solo release having offered others between 1984 and 2001.

Various artists are featured on the album including Graham Nash, Keb Mo, Kid Rock, Dwight Yoakum and the Blind Boys of Alabama.

However, it’s Schmit who carries the album. If all the albums released this year are as good as this, it is going to be a bumper year for brilliant music.
