IT’S not an encyclopaedia. But American journalist Amy Rosenthal has carved a unique niche for herself writing columns that are short statements on this and that of modern life.

Typical is: “Broker: It is weird and unsettling that a person who is hired to handle your money, make wise decisions about it, and, ostensibly, keep you from losing it is called a broker.”

In similar vein is a summary of her life and work, which includes this snapshot of her time as an advertising copywriter: “Sees that the word ‘Levi’s’ is in the word ‘television’.

Tries unsuccessfully to sell campaign around the tagline ‘Levi’s have always been a part of television,’ with clips of famous characters wearing Levi’s.”

Highly entertaining.
