Shostakovich : Martha Argerich (EMI Classics 504 5042)
Pianist Argerich recorded live at the Lugano Festival, teams up with the brilliant young trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, for a scintillating performance of Shostakovich's Concerto No 1. Pianist Alexander Vedernikov joins the Concertino for two pianos.
Jonathan Biss: Beethoven (EMI Classics 394 4222)
Hot on the heels of his successful Schumann disc, the young pianist Biss turns his attentions to Beethoven. He gives fresh drive to the Pathetique and Pastoral and the album includes the Piano Sonatas 27 and 30.
Respighi: Antonio Pappano (EMI Classics 394 4292)
Who better to convey the colour and drama of Respighi's Roman Trilogy than fellow countryman Pappano? He lavishes the work with broad brushstrokes and unabashed feeling.
