NICK WINSTON brought his production of the much-loved show Rock of Ages to the Darlington Hippodrome for the first time.

Following the story of Drew and Sherrie, two youngsters trying to make it in the big city, the production is not only a love story, but an all singing, all dancing celebration of the classic 80s rock anthems loved by many.

The opening night brought the theatre a truly fun and energetic production. With Danielle Hope taking on the role of Sherrie, she gave an expressive and funny performance which was truly captivating. Co-starring with Luke Walsh as Drew, their voices complimented each other perfectly, and their frequent dance duets were fantastic to watch.

Making a return to her hometown to bring us her portrayal of Justice, Zoe Birkett was a powerhouse. Sassy and soulful, she gave a note perfect performance of ‘Anyway You Want It’, together with Luke and the rest of the cast, and brought a serious amount of sparkle to the show. Lucas Rush brought an air of flamboyant glamour to the stage as co-owner of The Bourbon Room, Lonny. A playful and expressive narrator, he gave a performance, with a real sense of vibrancy. Together with Kevin Kennedy – better known as Curly from Corrie – as Dennis, the two made a hilarious duo, leaving the audience in hysterics during their rendition of ‘I Can’t Fight This Feeling’.

As a whole, the production was seamless. The combination of impressive visuals, guitar solos, and magnificent 80s get ups made for a delightful evening, taking the audience back in time.

The production provided a night of laughs, big hair and, of course, jazz hands!
