Sacconi Quartet launch Darlington season

AWARD-winning chamber music ensemble Sacconi Quartet are performing at Darlington Music Society on Saturday, October 8, with works from Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven: http://www.dms.btck.co.uk/ConcertDetails

The Quartet have just released a new album of works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn. Presented together on CD for the first time, Beethoven’s monumental opus 132 quartet and Mendelssohn’s dramatic response to it – his opus 13 quartet – are heard side by side.

The society has been making music in the town for more than 100 years. As always, the programme features a variety of young, professional musicians who will play an interesting selection of the classics - and some less usual items, too. There will be soloists, duos and quartets playing violins, cellos, flute, harp and piano.

The season continues on Saturday, November 12, with the duo Savitri Grier, violin, and Jean-Selim Abdelmoula, piano, and a move from Central Hall, Dolphin Centre, to the QE College, Vane Terrace. Both concerts at 7.30pm.

On January 21, there is a solo piano evening with Riyad Nicholas playing pieces by Chopin, Bach, Scarlatti and Beethoven. The Syrinx Flute and Harp Duo follow in February, the world-renowned Primrose Piano Quartet in March, and the season ends in April with a piano and cello recital – works by Dvorak, Chopin, Beethoven and Stravinsky.

All concerts are on Saturday evenings at 7.30pm in the Central Hall (except November 12). For full details and a brochure, with information about subscription tickets, phone 01325-467163. Single tickets can be bought at the door and concerts are free if you are under 26.
