MANY country music fans may frown at the thought of Motley Crue and an association with country music. There may not have been a link until you take in the words of Vince Neil, Motley Crue band member.

"I just kind of couldn't wrap my head around it because my head is still like what country music was thirty year ago, say when I was growing up,and I didn't realise that country music has become the new rock n' roll, and so all of a sudden I started listening to these bands and going,'This actually makes sense. I mean this is really cool! So it became really exciting and after listening to the songs for the first time of all the acts I was like,'These guys all hit a home run on this record."

The record he refers to is this new release that includes well know contemporary country stars who have lined up to pay homage to Motley Crue who, after more than 30 years together with over 80 million albums sold, have decided to call it quits.

It's an across-the-board mix of songs given a treatment by artists not normally associated with the 'Crue's' music, and to an extent it works.

It is certainly not an album for the faint-hearted traditional country music appreciator, but as country music progresses into a cross over wider stream it will appeal to those who thought country was still for the hillbilly fraternity.

Country artists adding their voice include Florida Georgia Line, Rascall Flatts, Cassadee Pope, Justin Moore, Big and Rich,The Mavericks, the Eli Young Band and actors from the Nashville TV series Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio.

In total, there are 15 tracks of Motley Crue renditions as you've never heard them before.

For a taster, join me from Saturday on the American Connection Country Show as I'll be featuring three tracks at americanconnection.euvue.co.uk.

For many it could be a country step too far...for others a fresh wild country breeze.
