Thomas Rhett: It Goes Like This (Valory, Big Machine Decca)

WHEN it comes to keeping it in the family , Rhett does it with ease because he is the son of 1990s singing star Rhett Atkins.

Rhett did well in the 2000s, writing hits for Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line plus two of his own singles Something To Do With My Hands and Beer With Jesus making the Top 30 of the Country Charts.

Last summer he gained his first Number One with the title track of this album. Originally, he played in a band called the High Heeled Flip Flops. He says: "We were a punk-rock band. There were four of us and we were terrible, our lead singer sang in a British punk accent, and we all dyed our hair black. My Uncle Eli, who works for the Zac Brown Band now, came to Nashville and we recorded our first record in my dad's living room."

Later, destiny took a hand and Rhett turned to creating solid country with a distinct urban streak and has shown a great songwriting talent. "Country, rock and hip-hop were what I was raised on and albeit that it's a strange combination it all leaks into what I write," he says.

Check it out, it's an eclectic mix of modern contemporary country of the highest order.
