WITH the advent of spring and the Tour De France heading to Yorkshire, now is as good a time as any to get on your bike. One of the many writers helping us to do so is Caz Nicklin, the founder of cyclechic.co.uk.

There are some handy sections, such as practical advice on choosing helmets, Q&As with female cyclists and profiles of inspirational women riders throughout history. One of the most helpful chapters is on bike maintenance (with segments on common noises bikes make and why), with comprehensive details on how to look after your bike.

If this book, which is encouraging in tone and offers sound advice throughout, inspires more women to cycle, then this can only be a positive thing. But it is a shame that the title of a book aimed at adults should refer to women as girls.
