WHO’S that woman in the dock at Walford Magistrates’ Court? It can’t be, surely it can’t be. But it is. Oh, the shame of it – pensioner Dot Branning up before the judge in EastEnders (BBC1).

What can she have done?

Laundering money, perhaps. Well, she does work at Walford’s launderette. But it’s the council that want her dealt with for breaking all sorts of rules laid down in her rent book. The prosecution even has an admission of guilt from Dot herself so the charge sheet isn’t going to come clean in the wash.

Friends Fatboy and Poppy (who sound like a particularly unhealthy singing duo) are concerned for Dot.

So is Ian, who sets her up with a decent pair of briefs. Well, it’s a long time to be stuck in the dock when you’re old.

The big question is this: will she lose her house? Tina in Coronation Street (ITV1) is concerned about her property too. It’s been broken into.

Her front door has been forced.

Terrible news admittedly, but better than a heart-to-heart with Ken Barlow. Gary is her knight in shining armour, offering to stay the night with the frightened damsel in distress. This sounds like a good excuse to get his feet under the bedroom carpet, but he’s just looking out for his unborn child. For Tina is carrying a baby for Gary and girlfriend Izzy-whizzy-let’s-get-busy.

She’s particularly upset because the thieves stole a ring belonging to her father, Joe. What I want to know is if she’ll claim on the insurance.

Remember how her dear dead dad planned to fake his own death and claim the insurance?

Gary wants something in return for standing guard. He asks her to tell him the sex of the baby despite Izzy-busy-etc not wanting to know. It will, if I know Tina, be the only talk of sex while he’s under her roof.

Gennie in Emmerdale (ITV1) is depressed. Having Nick-Nick-Nikhil as your partner and father of your baby would do that to anyone. But she’s also worried about her mother Brenda, who’s refusing to have treatment for a brain tumour.

Being a caring sort of chap, he decides to cheer up Gennie by bringing the wedding forward.

Wrong move. He says they should wed while mum Brenda is still around to see it. Not the most tactful thing to say in the circumstances.

And Brenda doesn’t take the news well either – she refuses to attend, although her comment “Over my dead body” could prove prophetic.
