OLD Yellow Moon is a collaborative new CD release (out on March 4) from EmmyLou Harris and Rodney Crowell on Nonesuch Records.

As individual artists, they have stood the test of time, notching up around 80 years of entertaining between them.

“I first heard Rodney on a demo tape in 1974 and knew immediately from his voice and lyrics he had the right stuff. We met soon after, becoming band mates in the Hot Band and starting a friendship that has continued and grown over the years. I always hoped that we would someday do this record,” says EmmyLou.

“The record’s overall tone calls to mind that Southern California blend of country music and rock and roll pioneered by Linda Ronstadt, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons and, of course, EmmyLou and the Hot Band” says Crowell.

There are 12 tracks and the listener is treated to four new songs from Crowell interpretations of Hank Devito’s Hanging Up My Heart, Roger Miller’s Invitation To The Blues and Allen Reynolds Dreamin’ My Dreams, among others.

Production and musicianship are superb throughout and guest musicians include Bill Payne, Stuart Duncan, and Vince Gill, along with other members of the original Hot Band.

It is a class Country album with the pair putting their duetting stamp on sounds originally emanating from yesteryear, but brought up to date.

It’s probably the best duo offering you’ll hear this year, and you may be able to catch up with them later in the year as it is possible they will tour in England around May or June.

In the meantime three tracks can be heard on this week’s American Connection Music Show on euvue.co.uk
