A product of Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s remarkable burst of creativity in the 1960s, the 8th Symphony uses texts drawn from Julian Tuwim’s epic poem Polish Flowers, reflecting on his country’s troubled past and ominous future.
Antoni Wit conducts the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir in this compelling CD. Expressive singing by tenor Rafal Bartminski, soprano Magdalena Dobrowolska, and alto Ewa Marciniec.
