The Saturdays are on a mission to break into the US music market, as Diana Pilkington reports

However often we hear talk of another ‘British invasion’, the US music industry remains a notoriously tough nut to crack. But The Saturdays, with their perfect smiles and perky enthusiasm, are determined to make it, and have treated their fans to a fly-onthe- wall view of the process.

Chasing The Saturdays follows the glossy girlband as they take up residence in Los Angeles and try to win over the US market, hot on the heels of the likes of One Direction and Adele.

‘‘It’s different from when we first went out there because no one knew us at all,’’ says 24-year-old Frankie Sandford. ‘‘It’s cool now we’re starting to do a bit of promo, so people are beginning to get to know us over there. We love it.’’ The show aims to cover the lows as well as the highs of being in the group, and there are moments when tears and homesickness rear their head on screen. After all, four of the girls are in serious relationships, and two are newly married.

In one scene, Vanessa White, 23, is seen crying about being apart from boyfriend Gary Salter.

Nevertheless, the girls insist there was no pre-arranged cut-off point with the filming, and they were keen to give an honest account of themselves on camera.

‘‘After we finished the filming, one of the people at E! said it was nice the show turned out differently from what they thought,’’ says Sandford. ‘‘It was nice to see five girls getting on. And we think it’s nice for other girls to see that too.

‘‘We are like family and that’s what’s helped us to do so well in the first place.’’
