WHOLE crop oats have been harvested to feed the 300-strong dairy herd and 150 followers at Clifton Castle Farms, near Masham, North Yorkshire.
The farm makes 3,000 tonnes of grass silage, as well as growing 70 acres of whole crop oats. Despite the dry spring, crop yields have been good and quality is looking promising.
The farm, owned by Lord Nicholas Downshire, has agreed a three-year deal with Farmway to host an annual grassland event.
The first, in May, proved popular with farmers who felt it was important to have a Northern grassland event. The next will be on May 9 next year.
