CARVER Commercial Chartered Surveyors Darlington has recent completed a lease on a substantial retail premises at West Park, Harrogate, to The Orvis Company Inc, which specialises in fine quality fly-fishing tackle, shooting clothing and accessories, traditional country clothing and unique gifts for the country home.

Carver Commercial secured the lease for the landlord and Robert Bebbington & Co, London agents, acted for Orvis in the transaction.

Richard Banbury, head of UK retail operations for Orvis, said: “The new Harrogate store at West Park will replace the successful and well-established Orvis store in Parliament Street.

“With over three times the selling area, this new site will enable us to substantially expand our merchandise on offer and improve our customer experience.

“Expanded ranges will include a wider selection of quality dog products and the biggest selection of high quality fly-fishing tackle in the region.

“We have chosen West Park for the new store as it is already home to a number of high-quality independents and it has good provision for car parking close by.

“We firmly believe our new store will further strengthen West Park as one of the key locations in the town for high-quality retailers.”

Orvis was founded by Charles F. Orvis in Manchester, Vermont, in 1856. In 1981, Orvis started a mail order business in the UK based at a converted water mill in Nether Wallop, Hampshire.

Since then the business has blossomed and the expansion has included the opening of 24 stores in the UK with a move to larger HQ and distribution premises in Andover, Hampshire.
