THE commitment shown by international engineering firm Amec to its Darlington base has undoubtedly provided a major boost to the local economy over the years through its employment of skilled North- East workers.

The company’s European engineering headquarters is based in Darlington, and the firm employs about 420 workers at its Lingfield Point site.

Its engineering division provides technical support to clients across the world and its North-East base also manages recruitment for the group’s European operations and handles support services.

Amec’s links with the area have mutual benefits, with the skills and experience of local workers contributing to the continuing success of a company which plays a major role in the economic health of the region by providing vital employment for local people.

Nicola Mason, Amec’s operations director, said: “Amec has been an established company in Darlington for many years and it is the headquarters of one of our engineering businesses. We have employed and developed the skills of our people, most of whom are from the local area, and now have an established skills base in the area.

“The skills and expertise of our Darlington workforce cannot be underestimated. They are flexible and have a reputation for delivery on a wide range of complex projects.”

Those skills and expertise have helped Amec to continue operating on an upward curve and look forward to a bright future.

The company recently unveiled a record order book, saying that orders stand at £4bn, which is an increase from £3.9bn in June and £3.6bn in October last year.

Managers also said they have plans to acquire new businesses, and could offer shareholders a dividend depending on progress.
