ALMOST 20 per cent of apprentices are working in senior management positions, a report has said.

The City and Guilds Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list says nearly 50 per cent of construction companies are employing former apprentices as directors.

The report also revealed 43 per cent of manufacturing and engineering companies had former apprentices in the boardroom, as well as 33 per cent of agricultural firms and 33 per cent of power companies.

Skills Minister Matthew Hancock, said: “Either going to university or choosing an apprenticeship needs to become the new norm for school and college leavers.

“These figures support this aim and show that apprentices are able to succeed in some of the biggest businesses in the UK.”
