CONSULTANCY firm White Young Green (WYG) has been awarded work on a £120m project by neighbouring Tees Valley engineering company Siemens VAI UK.

WYG has been appointed by Siemens to provide civil engineering expertise for a blast furnace scheme in Taichung, Taiwan.

The work will be done for Dragon Steel, which awarded the £120m contract to Siemens in the summer.

Colin Fenby, regional director for WYG, said: "This appointment comes on the back of a number of recent major international projects that our Tees Valley office has secured from Siemens VAI, including work undertaken on blast furnaces in India, Brazil and Port Talbot."

Both Siemens and WYG are based in Fudan Way, in Thornaby, Stockton.

Geoff Wingrove, director of Siemens' iron and steel division, said: "We are delighted to continue our working relationship with White Young Green.

"The team has had a great deal of experience on similar schemes and has provided its services on various projects in the past for us."
