CARILLION'S Newcastle based energy services business today announced a partnership with retailer Homebase to trial the Government's Green Deal programme, which is due to start in earnest next year.

Under the agreement the Carillion division, which was formerly Eaga, and Homebase will also team up with a local authority on the scheme, allowing households to invest in energy efficiency improvements at no upfront cost and repay through the expected savings on heating bills.

The Homebase and Carillion tie-up forms part of a series of business-led trials involving other well known companies, testing how best to encourage people to take up Green Deal.

Carillion Energy Services managing director Paul Varley said: "Green Deal is the flagship of the Government's Energy Bill and will be a key driver in the transformation to low carbon living.

"Carillion is focused on improving the living conditions of millions of households across the UK by making their homes warmer and more affordable to heat.

"We have been doing this at scale for more than 20 years by delivering energy efficiency solutions in partnership with a range of organizations and we are well placed to continue this collaborative approach through Green Deal."
