Satellite broadcaster Sky is to create 400 jobs at a new call centre in Newcastle.
In addition a further 400 staff will transfer from a contact centre firm in the city Sky presently contracts out to.
The new centre at Wellbar Central in Gallowgate, will open in October.
Chris Stylianou, who runs the Contact Centres for Sky, said: "We are looking forward to establishing a base in Newcastle.
"Our customer contact centres are the lifeblood of our business and we've had much success in the city to date, so opening our own premises here is a natural step."
