A LEADING Korean research company has opened a European base at Newcastle University to develop its stem cell programme.
Biotechnology firm RNL Bio was established in South Korea in 1961 and specialises in stem cell research, as well as regenerative medicine and therapeutic products. It It has signed an initial 12- month tenancy agreement for a unit at offices and labs designed for biotechnology companies, known as the "Cels at Newcastle"
bio-incubator.
The company, which employs 85 people in Korea, will create three jobs in the coming weeks and about 14 posts in the future.
It has been brought to the region following a joint venture between regional development agency One NorthEast, the North East England Stem Cell Institute (NESCI) and Cels, the organisation driving the growth of the region's healthcare economy.
