A NORTH Yorkshire-based software company has landed a contract with the largest provider of cancer and cardiac care services in Australia.

WJP Software Limited, based in Bedale, has announced that its in house reporting system will be implemented in GenesisCare, the world’s leading specialist private cancer provider, starting with one facility in Windsor.

When a pharmacy makes drugs for patients, the clean room they use must be free of anything that could impact the medication being given, and this is particularly important with low immune system illnesses such as cancer.

The software, named Microbiological Reporting System (MRS) is fed environmental data such as growths and moulds and then tracks, reports and trends the data.

This allows greater oversight in the clean room over a long period of time, meaning pharmacists can ensure they are compliant with patient safety standards and can act quickly to protect patients if needed.

The Northern Echo:

The technology is already used by around 50% of NHS Quality Control and Aseptic Labs in the UK, with 49 acute trusts including Quality Control and Quality Assurance Labs.

James Proctor, Managing Director of WJP Software Limited, which was originally based in Scarborough, said: “Having an international company such as GenesisCare implement our software is great and boosts our confidence to move into the private healthcare arena.

"We are incredibly proud of being a small part of the cancer care process.

“Being a software development company means you can be based anywhere and be competitive - you don’t need to be in locations such as London to have access to international clients.

"I think it can really boost the county to know that Yorkshire is providing innovative solutions to challenges in everyday life.

"We have spent a number of years developing and enhancing the software and with our close collaboration with the NHS we have created a software that supports the integral and specialist work pharmacy departments do within the patient safety objective."

Emma Spellman, Head of Theranostics and Imaging - UK at GenesisCare said “We are delighted to be working with WJP Software Limited to provide a software solution that supports our mission of delivering high quality, safe and effective cancer care to all our patients. The solution is implemented in our first UK radio pharmacy and gives our pharmacy units the opportunity for results to be available in real-time.”
