THE penultimate phase of a business park that could create up to 3,500 jobs is almost finished.

Spectrum Four and Spectrum Five, part of Spectrum Business Park, in Seaham, County Durham, are due to be completed by developers the Hillford Group at the end of the month.

Work will start early next year on the final phase of the site, Spectrum Seven and Spectrum Eight, site of the former Dawdon Colliery.

The site was reclaimed and developed with money from the National Coalfields Programme, run by English Partnerships and One NorthEast.

Ed Rowley, acting director of regeneration at One NorthEast, said: "Spectrum Business Park will bring a major employment and business boost to Seaham.

"It has the capacity to cater for around 3,500 new jobs, as well as dozens of new and expanding regional and national companies.

"That's great news, not only for Seaham, but the region."

The park is already home to the Pensions Service and the new Business Link North-East.

Easington District Council is also supporting the regeneration of Seaham. Councillor Rob Crute said: "It really is a fantastic time to be associated with Seaham."
